Timeline Memory — Overview

Timeline Memory helps protect your Premiere Pro edit before sending clips to After Effects. It can also help restore the original clips and timing from a Dynamic Link composition.

Primary workflow

Protect Before AE saves the current timeline before selected clips are replaced with an After Effects composition. This keeps a record of the original clips, timing and edit structure.

Restore From AE examines the selected Dynamic Link clip, related Premiere Auto-Save files and available project media to prepare a possible recovery.

Review Recovery shows what can be restored before any changes are made.

Safe recovery

Before restoring anything, Timeline Memory checks the recovery, saves a backup and creates a duplicate sequence. The restore is applied to the duplicate, not directly to your active edit. If a safe duplicate cannot be created, the restore is stopped.

Supporting tools

  • Scan AE Links finds Dynamic Link clips in the active sequence.
  • Snapshots saves and manages protected versions of the timeline.
  • Compare shows the differences between the current timeline and a saved snapshot.
  • History lists previous snapshot and recovery actions.
  • Backup exports the saved Timeline Memory data to a JSON file.

Requirements

Timeline Memory works directly inside Premiere Pro and does not require a separate application or background service.
